What is architectural acousmatic music?

"The acousmatic part is simple to explain: acousmatic music includes any music designed to be played over speakers to an audience rather than by live musicians. The term is predominantly used in the context of electroacoustics to indicate that no part of a performance will be visual in any way. The average audience tends to find it quite difficult to sit in an auditorium for lengthy periods of time without some kind of visual stimulus. Part of the problem with this is that the lights in the space are often left on (even if nothing is there to be lit), leaving the audience with continued visual stimulii, albeit static. My personal belief is that acousmatic music should be listened to in total darkness, so that the latent visual aspect of a concert hall environment is removed completely.

"Architectural music is a term which is not clearly defined in musicologists’ circles. Even Iannis Xenakis, who’s music is decidily architectural is rarely labelled as such specifically. Musicologists prefer to refer to its mathematic properties, labelling his output as 'stochastic'. If one is to look at a Xenakis score however, a strong visual element to the music in it’s written, unrealised, form can clearly be seen. Although this particular property to the music may not be discerned by the average ear when performed, it is very much present in the concept and design of the work. The tracks in FP/Arc Halv work on similar principles. Each of the sections, much like in my earlier EP SCPT, are based upon mathematical processes that trigger musical events. However, I have further developed the algorhythmic sources to incorporate an architectural element in its equivalent, unrealised form."
